LONG BEACH, NY — A day to celebrate for the surfing community in Long Beach. On Thursday, Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation and Surf for All will unveil a new children's adaptive surfboard.

The board was shaped by Mike Becker of Long Island's Nature Shapes to help children with disabilities for their chance to get on the waves.

The project was driven by Long Island native Brandon Klein, who will attend the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill this fall as an Innovation Scholar.

The surfboard, one of the first of its kind in the U.S., features an adjustable Tillett racing seat that promotes a level of independence for child athletes in the water.

Dunkin's Joy in Childhood Foundation, an organization making a difference in the lives of kids battles hunger and illness across the country, funded a grant to help the surfboard come to fruition.
