Long Beach Homeowners Will Pay 10% More In Property Taxes

LONG BEACH, NY — The Long Beach City Council approved a new $102 million budget on Tuesday that will lead to homeowners seeing a large hike in their property taxes.

The tax increase of nearly 10%, will average out to $462 per homeowner, Newsday said.

The 2023-2024 budget goes into effect on July 1.

Homeowners are left footing the bill due to $5.5 million Long Beach will pay developer Sinclair Haberman, the first portion of a $75 million settlement, City Council President John Bendo announced.

In 2021, the city was found liable in a 30-year-old case involving the development of oceanfront property, owned by Haberman, who wanted to turn it into condominiums adjacent to the boardwalk.

A settlement reached last year between the two parties cut the payment in half, Newsday reported.
