LONG BEACH, NY — From heart to esplanade: Long Beach's El Corazon de Cuba is now El Malecón de Cuba. The Cuban restaurant reopened earlier this year, and the owners have added Mexican dishes to the Cuban menu.

The eatery, at 26 E. Park Ave., bills itself as "the best of Mexican and Cuban cooking."

A recent post on the restaurant's Facebook page reflected on the journey to reopen the restaurant: "Of course it wasn't easy but here we are," the owners wrote.

Maria Anai Jimenez and her husband Masimo “Manny” Morales told Newsday that they wanted to add some of the warmth of her native Mexican state of Puebla and the flavors of traditional Mexican dishes like mole poblano to the Cuban restaurant they took over in 2021.

The menu has Cuban staples like Cuban sandwiches and ropa vieja, along with enchiladas, tacos and chilaquiles.
