A new developer is in talks to purchase the long-vacant Superblock in Long Beach, according to Newsday.

The Garden City-based Engel Burman Group is in talks to purchase the property from Manhattan developer iStar Financial, Newsday reported. The sale is contingent on a viable development plan for the property, but terms of the sale were not disclosed.

According to Newsday, though plans are not yet concrete, Engel Burman is planning a series of apartments and condos for the property, with possibly some retail space, none of which would require zoning variances from the city. The company is also planning a series of meetings with the community to get input, Newsday reported.

Engel Burman owns properties all over Long Island. The company owns more than a dozen Bristal Assisted Living facilities across the Island, as well as many other residential and commercial facilities.

The sale, however, is unlikely to bring an end to the city's troubles with the property. Last year, the city's Zoning Board revoked iStar's permits for the site after the company hadn't started any construction. This prompted iStar to file a $100 million lawsuit against the city, which is still in court.
