After nearly two full weeks of closure following cases of salmonella being linked to the restaurant, Long Beach's Brixx & Barley is planning to reopen this evening.

The restaurant was closed on Aug. 9 after the Nassau County Department of Health traced back numerous cases of salmonella to people eating and drinking at the restaurant. Since then, the restaurant has been working to locate and clean the source of the contamination. The Department of Health said it gave the restaurant the green light to reopen.

According to the Department of Health, the source of the contamination is still under investigation.

"Brixx & Barley has been grateful for being able to serve the Long Beach community for the past five-plus years by providing high quality food in a fun atmosphere," the restaurant wrote on social media. "Just recently, we were notified of a health concern that has affected our restaurant. We take this incident very seriously because the safety of our food and well-being of our customers is always our highest priority. We committed to taking any and all necessary actions to make sure our food is as safe as possible, and we worked diligently with the Nassau County Health Department."

Brixx & Barley will reopen at 5 p.m. tonight for Wing Wednesday. Tomorrow night, Aug. 22, the restaurant will be holding a party to thank the community for its support, and will have a free open bar with passed appetizers from 6 to 8 p.m., with a DJ starting to play music at 8 p.m.

On Friday, the restaurant will be selling Happy Hour-priced drinks and pizzas at the bar from open until close, with a live band starting at 10 p.m.

According to the Department of Health, Brixx & Barley was closed after a "cluster of cases" of salmonella were traced back to people who consumed food and drink at the restaurant. The exposure to salmonella could have gone back to early July, the county said.
