Long Beach's Charlie McAvoy To Play Bruins' Defense In NHL Playoffs Tonight

McAvoy hasn't been on the ice for the Bruins at all. But he may help lead their defense in tonight's playoff game.

Long Beach native Charlie McAvoy, who signed with the Boston Bruins just this week, may be leading the team's defense with captain Zdeno Chara as they enter the NHL playoffs.

McAvoy, 19, signed a three-year contract with with the Bruins on Monday, according to NESN. The team paired him with Chara at the latest practice to see what he had. That means that McAvoy may be on the ice when the Bruins face off against the Ottowa Senators Wednesday night.

"I think I got some of the nerves out today in practice," McAvoy said on the Bruins' website. "Being on the ice with so many guys that I've looked up to my whole life, it's just very special, I don't really have words for it, but all of those guys, there's so much I can pull, as far as information from those guys, on how to be a better player, how to be a better person, so right now I'm just trying to be a sponge."
