Man Punches Cop In Nassau, Bites Another: Police

The man injured officers before and during his arrest, police say. He also committed two home burglaries in January, police say.

LONG BEACH, NY — A Long Beach man was arrested early Wednesday after he punched a Nassau police officer, the department said.

Fourth Precinct police responded to the Plantation Motel, at 4040 Long Beach Road, for a report of a man causing a disturbance at 3 a.m., police said. Officers saw James Becker, 39, yelling loudly and being uncooperative, police said.

Becker then approached an officer and punched him on the left side of his chin, police said. Becker ran across the street to a parking lot at 4005 Long Beach Road, police said.

Police used an electronic control device to prevent Becker from climbing over a fence, police said.
Becker was "violent and combative while resisting arrest," injuring multiple officers, police said.
Two officers were brought to a local hospital and treated for pain to a right knee and a left arm bite mark, police said.

Becker was also evaluated and treated, police said.

An investigation found Becker was also responsible for two home burglaries in Lido Beach on Jan. 5 and Jan. 9, police said.

Becker was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree burglary, three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of first-degree criminal contempt, and one count of resisting arrest.

His arraignment was scheduled for Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
