Obituary: Ronald Walter Deardoff, Formerly of Oceanside, Dies at 77

The former ex-captain of the Oceanside Fire Department passed away on April 30.

Ronald Walter Deardoff, formerly of Oceanside, died on April 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 77.

Deardoff was born on September 20, 1938 in Far Rockaway, Queens to Walter Deardoff and Eva Ellen Ronquist.

After serving in the United States Navy, he began his career with TWA and then married his high school sweetheart Marie (nee Schmitt) Deardoff on June 28, 1958.

He was former longtime resident of Oceanside where he served with the Oceanside Fire Department for 42 years.

For 35 of those years he was a member of Rescue Company (Captain for 8) and a member of Hose Company for 7 where he was a life member.

"We remember Ex Captain Deardoff's service and offer our condolences to his family and friends," the Oceanside Fire Department wrote.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children Cheryl Gress (Michael), Christopher (Leslie Greenberg), Jodi Yurick (Richard), and Jonathan (Mark Harris).

Deardoff is also survived by 12 grandchildren.

Services were held at Towers Funeral Home in Oceanside on Sunday and Monday.

He was laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery.
