Overnight Storm Caused Over 2 Inches Of Rain, 60+ MPH Wind For Some

LONG ISLAND, NY — It was a forceful overnight storm across Long Island with the rain and wind event.

In Suffolk County, one of the highest recorded gusts in the area was in Blue Point with 69 miles per hour at 3:14 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Nepeague and Great Gull Island registered 61 miles per hour gusts.

Suffolk had plenty of gusts over 50 miles per hour, including in Orient at 58 mph.

As for Nassau, the National Weather Service listed three locations:

Bayville topped the county at 57 mph. Wantagh was close behind with 53 mph and there was a 45 mph gust in Massapequa Park.

Checking the rain totals, two spots logged more than two inches:

Blue Point with 2.39 inches and East Hampton at 2.13 inches.

The rest on Suffolk ranged from just under one inch in North Babylon to 1.89 inches in Huntington.

In Nassau, the most rain overnight fell in Bellmore with 2.10 inches. Great Neck came in just behind with 1.91 inches. The remainder of Nassau ranged from 1.04 in Wantagh to 1.81 in Port Washington, according to the NWS.
