Police ID Wrongway Moped Rider In Fatal Crash On Rockaway Parkway

The Queens resident was hit twice by oncoming vehicles, police said.

NORTH LAWRENCE, NY — The moped rider who died on Rockaway Turnpike Sunday evening has been identified as Jason Rose, 48, of Jamaica, NY by Nassau County police.

According to detectives, he was westbound on a blue moped at 8:32 p.m., traveling in the eastbound lane, when he was involved in a head-on collision with a 2015 Honda SUV being operated by a 57-year-old man.

Following the initial collision, he and the moped were struck in front of 605 Rockaway Turnpike by a 2004 box truck driven by a 21-year-old man who was also eastbound, police said.

As a result of the collisions, Rose suffered serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police medic, police said; no other injuries were reported.

The operators of the Honda and the box truck remained at the scene, police said.
