Pols Want Hochul To Get Federal Funds For South Shore Christmas Storm

The storm caused gusty winds and powerful tidal flooding.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Lawmakers are seeking the government's help from a storm last month that impacted many residents on the south shore.

Strong winds and tidal surge flooding caused damage to homes in the days leading up to Christmas.

Congressman Anthony D'Esposito and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul requesting a formal disaster declaration from the White House.

"Only you possess the ability to set this process in motion," the letter states.

Along with seeking funds from FEMA, the lawmakers want Hochul to "explore all avenues and utilize all available New York State resources to further support our constituents struggling to overcome the impacts of the Christmas tidal flood."
