Popular LI Summer Destination Chosen A Top Spot For Vegans

The rankings by PETA looked at vegan-friendly restaurants and dishes in Long Beach.

LONG BEACH, NY — While we know Long Beach is renowned as a beach destination, you may not be aware that the "City by the Bay" is a top summertime jaunt for vegans.

Long Beach was ranked among the Top 10 favorite vegan-friendly beach spots, a survey by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) announced.

On the PETA website, Long Beach was recognized for such eateries as Fermento, the only fully vegan restaurant along the famed boardwalk.

But, other establishments stood out for offering vegan options including Vegan Tacos at The Cabana, A Dang Quessa Dilla at Blacksmith's Breads and Chicken Parmigiana Pie from Brixx and Barley.

A certificate from PETA was sent to Long Beach Interim City Manager Donna Gayden.

"From classic American sandwiches brimming with vegan ham and dairy-free cheese slices to plant-powered twists like kung pao cauliflower, restaurants in The City by the Sea are dishing up some of the best vegan food for holidaymakers and residents," PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement. "Long Beach joins all the other great beach towns on PETA’s list that are hot spots for the animal-friendly fare people are craving this summer."

Some of the other beach fronts that PETA praised for their vegan menus are Atlantic City, Charleston, South Carolina and San Diego, California.
