Safe at Home? Not so Much. But we Celebrate his Life

To lose a family member is sad, of course; to lose one so young is unbearable. But we celebrate his young life as best we can.

Most of you know the story of Lazar LaPenna’s death. He was the Little Leaguer who died at first base in a ballgame—at ten years old. If you trek our boardwalk you’ve seen the memorial sign put up for his family: LAZAR.

It was a tragic loss, but, in loss, we often join together in hopes it will help us to heal.

Longbeachers gathered this past Saturday, April 27th, Lazar's birthday, to celebrate Lazar LaPenna’s life.

It was the idea of one of you, a unique idea to put fitness into the celebration. Lazar was a young man who was into health and sports.

Many of you attended the gathering, and some of you participated. I took many photos.
