Services Set For Long Beach Firefighter Who Died Of 9/11 Cancer

People will be paying their respects to Michael Ornauer this weekend.

The funeral has been set for a Long Beach firefighter who died from 9/11-related cancer on Tuesday.

Michael Ornauer, an ex-captain of the Long Beach Fire Department, died from 9/11-related cancer on Tuesday night. Funeral services will be held at Gutterman's Funeral Home, at 175 N. Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre, on Sunday, July 7 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Wellwood Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Ornauer was a lifelong firefighter. He was a member of the Long Beach Fire Department for 30 years, and was a member of the Freeport Fire Department before that.

In 2018, he retired from his position as a Nassau County Fire Communications Dispatcher, where he worked for 26 years. He also volunteered his time at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum.
