Still Bubbly—After All These Years

Physical challenges will befall us if we trek this blue planet long enough. But not too many of us suffer them—at age three.

I again came upon a young lady with a remarkable Long Beach story. It’s a story like many others I reported here, but also very unlike them.

Mindy’s story began when her eyes, well one of them, just began to understand the whole world, to put it in focus, so to speak.

Her sister, Amy, was five years old and had trouble walking. So, Mom and Dad took both of them to the doctor.

The diagnosis was rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis is a disease most of us encounter as we age. It causes us pain and swelling. It makes it hard for us to work and enjoy life. But we take it as part of—just getting older—right? So, what does a child do when faced with the challenges of the elderly—at three?

Mindy’s arthritis had a peculiar aspect that was new to me. And I suspect it's new to most of you.

But she dealt with it in a way that I’ve seen before— with relentless tenacity. But Mindy’s tenacity is blended with vivacity.
