POINT LOOKOUT, NY — The unofficial start of summer is about to begin, and with it the official start of swimming at Town of Hempstead beaches.

Beaches will welcome residents on Saturday as they usher in the season.

The town will have fully staffed lifeguards to keep beachgoers safe. Another way the town is maintaining safety in the water is by enhancing Long Island's first-ever Shark Patrol, which will use jet skis and boats to proactively watch for encroaching sharks.
