LONG BEACH, NY — Tropical Storm Elsa is churning in the Atlantic, and it could hit the area by Thursday night.

The city of Long Beach is tracking the storm and the latest forecast calls for up to 3 inches of rain with strong winds through Friday.

But before any rain falls, the city encourages people to prepare now for the storm. Residents were reminded to put together a family emergency plan and a go bag checklist in case an evacuation is necessary.
