ISLAND PARK, NY — As Donald Trump's fate hangs in the balance in his hush money trial, the former president endorsed Congressman Anthony D'Esposito (R-Island Park) for his reelection bid.

"Congressman Anthony D’Esposito is a fantastic and highly effective representative for the people of New York’s 4th Congressional District," Trump said Sunday on X. "A retired NYPD police detective, Anthony is working hard to Uphold the Rule of Law, Create Jobs and Lower Inflation, Secure the Border, and Support our Incredible Military and Police Officers. Anthony D’Esposito has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"

D'Esposito is in a fight to keep his seat, as the Cook Political Report has the 4th District as a toss-up.

"With President Trump back in the White House, my House Republican colleagues and I will finally have a partner in government equally committed to securing our borders, stopping the crime crisis, standing up to our enemies overseas, and ending Joe Biden’s inflation-inducing progressive spending spree," he said.

However, Democrat Laura Gillen, expected to face D'Esposito for a November rematch, sent a campaign email attacking her opponent.

"Anthony D’Esposito has shown himself to be a lying, corrupt, anti-choice extremist who will always side with MAGA Republicans," Gillen's campaign said. "Trump’s endorsement only proves D’Esposito’s loyalty to pushing the MAGA agenda forward instead of delivering progress for families on Long Island."
