OCEANSIDE, NY — At the crossroads of shopping and technology, Amazon Fresh was born. The supermarket chain opens its first New York store on Thursday in Oceanside.

Shoppers will find a unique experience awaiting them at the former Waldbaum's on Long Beach Road.

"Come in, do your shopping and go," District manager Cory Keller told Patch. "As busy as people are every day, that's what we pride ourselves on, around the freshness and the convenience."

Using the Amazon app, customers scan a QR code when they enter the store. Then, shop as normal down each aisle, filling up the cart. When leaving the store, shoppers scan the same code, "and, you're done," he said.

For those who prefer the "old-school" check-out, that's available as well.

But Keller said the technology is simple to use and workers will give a brief tutorial upon entering the supermarket.

Being an Amazon Prime member is not required, however Keller said they get special discounts.
