Ask the Smilist Dental: Why Should My Child See a Pediatric Dentist?

Pediatric dentists are uniquely qualified to meet the needs of infants, toddlers, school-age children and adolescents.

Pediatric dentists, or pedodontists, are uniquely qualified to meet the needs of infants, toddlers, school-age children and adolescents. They are required to undertake an additional 2-3 years of training after fulfilling their dental school requirements. Pediatric dentists also receive training related to child psychology to help them communicate with children in an effective, gentle and compassionate way.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that parents schedule their child’s first dental visit within six months after they get their first tooth. While this may seem early, regular and preventative dental appointments are helpful in monitoring a child’s dental development.

Dr. Erica Anand, a Pediatric Dentist has recently joined the staff at the Smilist of Amityville. Dr. Anand is well-versed in the latest techniques in providing dental services for children. While studying dentistry at Stony Brook University, she donated her time to treat underserved children and families in Chile and has organized numerous Girl Scout Oral Health projects. Dr. Anand is currently accepting new patients. To book an appointment with Dr. Anand, call the Smilist at 631-496-1054.
