Blood Drive Gets Large Amount Of Donations In Honoring Local Woman

MASSAPEQUA, NY — It was a successful blood drive in honor of a local woman who died of cancer.

Bridget McElroy, who was in her mid-30s when she passed away, wanted people to donate blood to save others.

The Aug. 19 drive at Marjorie Post Park Community Center in Massapequa received 62 pints of blood.

"Bridget would be so thrilled!" her mother Mary McElroy said.

As Mary relayed in July, comments from her dying daughter: "All I want for my birthday is for everybody to give blood."
