Flood Watch Issued for Nassau

Any dads who love rain will get plenty of it from Mother Nature this Father's Day.

Father’s Day is shaping up to be a complete washout on Long Island.

The National Weather Service has now issued a flood watch for Nassau County, in effect from 8 p.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Heavy rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Bill is likely to hit the region during that period. The heaviest rain is expected to occur overnight Saturday through Sunday morning, the NWS says.

The chance of rain and thunderstorms will continue into Sunday night. A total of 1-2 inches of rain is expected to fall across the area this weekend, although amounts of up to 3 inches will be possible in thunderstorms, the NWS says.

A flood watch, according to the NWS, means ”there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.“
