Flooding Possible For Long Island With Heavy Thursday Rains: NWS

The National Weather Service is telling people to be careful Thursday night, when rains could be heavy at times.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Heavy rains could hit Long Island Thursday night, the National Weather Service said, which could cause localized flooding.

According to the NWS, areas across Long Island could see localized heavy rainfall Thursday and into the night time. Rainfall could be as much as 1.5 inches. The rain is likely to start after 2 p.m.

"The main threat from this rainfall will be from minor urban and poor drainage flooding," the National Weather Service said. "Localized flash flooding is possible, especially Thursday evening."

There is also the possibility of wind gusts up to 32 MPH.

The rain should taper off early Friday morning, and skies should be clear again by the time the sun rises.
