MASSAPEQUA, NY — A North Massapequa man was sentenced to one year on a misdemeanor conviction for menacing, Patch has learned.

Errick Allen, 31, was found guilty in March after a five-week trial in State Supreme Court in Mineola. The office of Attorney General Letitia James was prosecuting the case against Allen, a former NYPD officer, who was cleared of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the death of his childhood friend Christopher Curro, Newsday reported.

Allen was remanded for over two years from his indictment until the trial. The Attorney General's office said Allen will not return to jail.

Defense attorney Anthony LaPinta had argued that Curro attempted to take Allen's NYPD Glock.

LaPinta said it was a "classic case of self-defense," Newsday said.
