Adventure

I try to recollect the advice I always gave to my brood when we shared minor mishaps i.e, flat tires, power outages, broken toys, and bruised knees.

I would tell them It is another adventure. Enjoy the moment.

Now as I age more and more, day by day, I wish they could give me the same counsel.

Life is full of adventures, but not equally alike or similar,

Aging is unique because each individual differs significantly on this perilous road.

Some seem to cope with it easily. Others, like I, are more fragile as every day approaches with another unique challenge.

Some maintain an aura of complacency. Not I, unfortunately. I feel the hounds of hell are chasing me and I am unable to run any faster. Then I remember my advice to four beautiful youngsters, and I stop running and listen to my own advice.

There is no need to complete the delayed novel. There is no deadline for the new cookbook and it matters not if I delay reading the new noir mystery.

I will not be judged for watching too many newscasts nor punished for never attending any of the various 9 am exercise programs.

It is time to admit who I am.

A woman who marches to her own drummer; sleeping a bit late, reading far too much, optimistically writing 3 hours daily and unfortunately, occasionally overeating.

A woman, who religiously remembers being wife and Mother, but now is desperately trying to complete the road she has been given and be grateful for each day of life.

And trying to always remember It is just another adventure.
