MASSAPEQUA, NY — A little league team from Long Island is getting closer to reaching the Little League World Series.

The Massapequa Coast squad knocked off Toms River East on Saturday, 6-3, to win the Little League Baseball Metro Region Tournament. They needed extra innings to advance.

Tied at 3 after six innings of regulation, Massapequa scored three times in the 7th, led by a Mikey Castellano two-run homer.

The boys from Massapequa had qualified for the weekend action as the New York State Champs.
