MASSAPEQUA, NY —Long Island now has its sixth Whole Foods Market but this time the South Shore got a little bit of the action. Massapequa's new store is the first on the South Shore of Long Island, opening in the space left vacant by Babies R' Us at 5214 Sunrise Highway.

The other Long Island locations are in Garden City, Commack, Jericho, Manhasset and Lake Grove.
Communities along the South Shore have buzzed for years about the possibility the fresh, organic food-focused chain might finally open a southern outpost. The Massapequa store follows the typical mold of the brand, with local purveyors, prepared foods section, full-service butcher and seafood areas and a self-serve pasta bar from New Jersey company Severino Pasta. There is a coffee bar with cold brew on tap.

Whole Foods is based in Austin, Texas and has over 500 stores nationwide. The Massapequa store is open until 8 a.m until 9 p.m. every day.
