LI Weather: Mostly Clear, Cool Week Ahead; Rain Possible Wednesday

LONG ISLAND, NY — There's a mostly beautiful week ahead for Long Islanders, with only a bit of rain in the forecast.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be cool for most of the week, dropping down to cold by the end of the week. Highs will be around 50 degrees Monday and Tuesday, forecasts say, dropping down to near freezing Monday night.

Rain is coming in Wednesday, but is bringing higher temperatures with it. The temperature should be around 60 on Wednesday.

But then temperatures take a steep drop as the rain clears. Thursday and Friday will have highs in the low 40s, but clear skies.

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 48 by 5 p.m. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. North wind 5 to 9 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, mainly between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., then rain after 1 p.m. High near 60. Breezy, with a south wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Rain likely before 1 a.m. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 34. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 44. Breezy.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 46.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.
