LONG ISLAND, NY — To facilitate people heading into the city to celebrate New Year's Eve, the Long Island Rail Road will offer more trains in both directions. However, the party will stop on the train as alcohol will not be allowed.

The LIRR will operate more trains into the city early on New Year's Eve, and back out to Long Island after midnight, the MTA said.

Alcohol will be banned on all LIRR and Metro-North trains and station platforms from noon on Dec. 31 to noon on Jan. 1. Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal will see more MTA police officers to enforce the alcohol restriction. Police will confiscate alcoholic beverages and issue summonses. Violators could face removal from trains or stations by police, the MTA said.
