The LIRR has reversed its course on going cashless on trains, according to a Newsday report.

According to Newsday, the change was announced by LIRR President Phillip Eng at a meeting of the MTA's LIRR Committee on Monday. Eng said that the plan to make the railroad cashless would be tabled until the MTA's new fare system is in place, which is expected to happen in early 2021.

The plan to go cashless was met with steep opposition from riders and advocacy groups, who said it would make it harder for low-income individuals, as well as students and the elderly, to purchase tickets.
