LONG ISLAND, NY — A wet start to the week will give way to clear, crisp weather for Long Island.

The latest forecasts from the National Weather Service, Monday is set to be the warmest day this week. It's also going to be the wettest. Rain could return this evening, with possible thunderstorms into the night.

But the clouds will break on Tuesday, and then it's clear skies for the rest of the week. But it will be cool, with highs in the upper 50s.

Today: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 57. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 41. West wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 56. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph.
