The Sunrise Mall location is the final Sears to close, and the tenth to shutter on LI since 2018 when Sears Holdings declared bankruptcy.

MASSAPEQUA, NY— It's the official end of an era: the last Sears store on Long Island has closed its doors. The Massapequa location, in the Sunrise Mall, is officially out of business as of Tuesday. The one-time retail giant has closed all ten of its Long Island locations since 2018, when parent group Sears Holdings declared bankruptcy.

A recording at the Massapequa store on Tuesday announced that the store and the auto center were now closed, and directed shoppers to Sears online store.

Sears and Kmart, both taken over by Transformco, have closed more than 3,500 stores and cut about 250,000 jobs in the past 15 years nationally. According to USA Today, after this most recent round of store closings, there will be only 19 Sears stores and 15 Kmarts left.
