Man Dead In Southern State Parkway Crash On LI: Police

The car struck the center guide rail, veered across into the right shoulder and hit a tree, police say.

NORTH MASSAPEQUA, NY — A man was killed in a one-car crash on the Southern State Parkway on Thursday afternoon, the New York State Police Department said.

Peter Kent, 61, of North Babylon, was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado east on the Southern State Parkway near exit 32 in the Town of Oyster Bay around 3 p.m. Thursday, police said. Kent drove off the road, struck the center guide rail, causing his car to travel back across the lanes of traffic and onto the right shoulder, where he then crashed into a tree, police said.

Kent was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan University Hospital.
