LI To Play In Little League World Series, First Time In 44 Years

This is the first time a Long Island team has made it to the World Series in 44 year. The team's next game is Aug. 19 in Pennsylvania.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — After a 4-0 win in the Metro Region championship finals Friday night in Connecticut, the Massapequa Coast Little League team from Long Island is heading to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania next week.

The Metro Region champions will be the first team from Long Island to move on to the World Series since 1978, which was 44 years ago, according to News 12.

The series will take place at the Little League International Complex at 539 US Route 15 Hwy. from Aug. 17 to 28 featuring nine other regional winners from across the country and 10 international teams, according to littleleague.org.

The Long Island team’s next game is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. and people can watch the game on ESPN, according to the Little League website.
