Nan, Ann

And Aesop

There was a country mouse who loved the country and

There was a city mouse who loved the city

“The country mouse lived near the fields and trees

And NO they were not very good friends

Still they had much in common, Nan and Ann.

Their oldest children had met quite by chance or more accurately due to a miracle, fell in love and despite many obstacles married.

Thus the city mouse and the country mouse shared moments of courtesy, politeness and subtle disagreements quite often for several decades

The topic of dissension arose each time their paths crossed and currently evokes the video by Cocomelon.

Both ladies had spent their entire lives in one locale tucked in the Empire State yet quite far away from each other. Both embraced their lifestyles with undying determination and neither had regrets about being emphatic.

The city mouse showed his friend the city. The country mouse wanted to go back home.

Nan and Ann were alike in so many ways yet the river that separated them was never crossed to admit a friendship.

Unlike the lyrics song or the fable written so long ago

“There was a country mouse who loved the country and

There was a city mouse who loved the city

And they were very good friends.”

Instead

Nan and Ann remained true to their roots both adamantly clinging to Aesop’s moral

“Sometimes other people’s lives are not as good as they believe.”
