Nassau Woman Hit, Killed By Car While Crossing Street: Police

Police say the 60-year-old woman was hit by an SUV driven by a 76-year-old man, and died shortly after.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Nassau County police have released details about a fatal crash earlier today that closed Sunrise Highway for hours.

According to police, a 60-year-old woman was crossing Sunrise Highway at Broadway at 10:48 a.m. when she was hit by an SUV being driven by a 76-year-old man. The woman, from Wantagh, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where she died at 11:25 a.m.

Police say the driver of the SUV, who was from Amityville, remained at the scene. Police have not yet released the names of anyone involved. The investigation is ongoing.
