LONG ISLAND, NY — A Long Island man was stunned to learn he unknowingly posted a picture of Gilgo Beach serial killing suspect Rex Heuermann to his Instagram account nine years ago, The New York Post reported.

The man, who is a former CVS employee, posted to Reddit the March 2015 image of Heuermann holding a tall can of beer in a brown paper bag and a tablet while riding the Long Island Railroad's Babylon line, writing, “Me in 10 years if I stay at CVS and continue to eat fried food everyday,” the outlet reported.

He claimed he did not realize it was Heuermann until recently, writing, “Dude, absolutely not. I randomly just thought about this picture today. Then remembered the guy resembling him. Said to myself “would be funny if it was him lol”. Then looked at it. Same train line. Saw him plenty of times. One day decided to make a dumb instagram post about fear of letting myself go. 9 years later (today) realized i struck true crime gold. Crazy s—t," according to the outlet.

He was arrested in July 2023.

The bodies of the four women, all sex workers, were found buried along Ocean Parkway in Gilgo Beach in 2010.

Another seven sets of remains were found nearby, including that of a toddler and an Asian male dressed in women's clothing.

The skull of Karen Vergata, 34, of Manhattan, was found in 2011 at Tobay Beach near the remains of Jessica Taylor.

Heuermann has not been named a suspect in connection with the other remains.

Heuermann's attorney, Michael Brown of Central Islip, has maintained his innocence and has said that he looks forward to his day in court.

Heuermann is being held in the Suffolk County Correctional Facility pending the adjudication of his criminal case.
