Stray Cats To Play Near Rockabilly Band's Hometown Of Massapequa

The Stray Cats, a rock and roll band known best for early 1980s hits such as "Stray Cat Strut" and "(she's) Sexy + 17," is returning home.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — The Stray Cats, a rockabilly band known for its hits in the early 1980s, will play near its hometown of Massapequa as part of an intimate, invitation-only show for subscribers of SiriusXM. The trio, which formed in the hamlet in 1979, will launch the band's 40th anniversary tour with the Aug. 2 performance at Revolution Bar & Grill — the place where the band auditioned — unsuccessfully — when first starting out.

"In 1977, we auditioned at the Revolution (formerly Past Times Pub) down the road from our house, and didn't get the gig," the band said, according toBroadwayWorld.com. "Now we're finally coming back!"

Concert-goers can expect to hear Stray Cat classics as well as some of their new music. The band recorded an album for the first time in more than a quarter century. Brian Setzer, Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom, the group's founders, will all play at the show, which will also air on SiriusXM's Outlaw Country station, Little Steven's Underground Garage, 1st Wave and on the SiriusXM app.

Those who wish to see the show in person will have to be subscribers to the service, and even then, they'll need a little luck. Eligible subscribers can only win tickets by receiving an emailed invitation — meaning those individuals agreed to receive email marketing — and had to have indicated their music interests on the service's website.

The Stray Cats are perhaps best known for hits such as "Stray Cat Strut," "(she's Sexy + 17)," "Rock This Town," and "I Won't Stand In Your Way." Each song earned a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts between 1982 and 1984.
