Cash Register Stolen From Nassau Cleaners: Police

Jose ​Portillo-Sandoval, who is charged with third-degree burglary, also has an open arrest warrant for third-degree burglary, police said.

NORTH MERRICK, NY — A North Merrick man was arrested for robbing Jim-Jam Cleaners on Merrick Avenue, police said.

Jose Portillo-Sandoval, 36, was observed by officers walking away from the store, just before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, police said.

Portillo-Sandoval was recognized as being responsible for previous burglaries and was stopped, authorities said.

After an investigation, it was determined that he entered the cleaners through a rear window, removed a cash register and fled, police said.

He was placed into police custody without incident.

Portillo-Sandoval has open Nassau County arrest warrants for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief and petty larceny.

He is charged with one count of third-degree burglary. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
