NEWBURGH, NY — A pilot program that will provide free bus fares along four Newburgh-area transit routes is now in effect.

The number of anticipated trips that will be covered is around 30,000 as a result of the funding for the pilot program that costs $67,500.

“If you don’t have a car in the suburbs or the exurbs, your life is difficult,” Skoufis said.

"We need more accessible public transit in Newburgh,” he said.

Skoufis said he hopes the partnership with Orange County will result in finding a way to extend the program.
