V.P. Harris To Give West Point Commencement Speech

The U.S. Military Academy said Harris will be the first woman to be the commencement speaker.

WEST POINT, NY — Vice President Kamala Harris will be this year's commencement speaker at the U.S. Military Academy.

Her appearance at the class of 2023 graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 27 marks the vice president’s first visit to the academy.

It is also the first time in West Point’s 221-year history that a woman will be the commencement speaker.

Lt. Gen. Steven W. Gilland, the academy’s 61st superintendent, said West Point was honored to have Harris as the commencement speaker.

“As an accomplished leader who has achieved significant milestones throughout her career,” he said, “we look forward to her inspiring remarks to our cadets.”

Harris is the first woman, first Black American and first South Asian American to be elected U.S. vice president.
