Nestled in the friendly town of Pearl River, NY, the therapeutic preschool, A Starting Place, has been serving the Rockland, Orange, and NJ area since 1979. Patricia Dorsey was a co-founder of A Starting Place where she remained the Executive Director until her death in February of 2014. Her commitment, and that of the current director Dr. Karen Schragenheim, continues to create a culture that continually improves services, sustains a high quality team-oriented work environment and provides personalized education to each student and their family.

A Starting Place’s cornerstone philosophy is to provide a safe, nurturing and accepting school that includes and never excludes. They believe that young children learn best by interacting actively and creatively with their environment. They are committed to creating a curriculum for their special needs students that provides for growth in all areas of development: social, emotional, physical and cognitive/intellectual/creative.
