'Goodfellas' Actor Paul Sorvino Dies At 83

The Brooklyn-born actor died of natural causes in Indiana.

BROOKLYN, NY — Legendary actor and Brooklyn native Paul Sorvino has died at 83 years old.

The "Goodfellas" and "Law & Order" star died Monday morning in Indiana of natural causes, according to his family and the Associated Press.

"My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over," wrote his daughter, the Academy-Award winning actor Mira Sorvino.

"He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend."

Sorvino, who was born in Brooklyn in 1939, spent more than 50 years in the entertainment industry.

He was perhaps most known for playing crooks and cops like Paulie Cicero in “Goodfellas” and the NYPD sergeant Phil Cerretta on “Law & Order."

Sorvino's credits also include playing an Italian American communist in Warren Beatty’s “Reds,” Henry Kissinger in Oliver Stone’s “Nixon” and mob boss Eddie Valentine in “The Rocketeer."

A Bensonhurst native, Sorvino attended Lafayette High School before studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. He would later make his Broadway debut “Bajour” in 1964, according to the Associated Press.

Sorvino was the father of Mira Sorvino, screenwriter Amanda Sorvino and actor Michael Sorvino.

His wife Dee Dee Sorvino posted photos of her late husband to Twitter Monday afternoon and wrote, "I am completely devastated."

"The love of my life & the most wonderful man who has ever lived is gone," Sorvino tweeted. "I am heartbroken."
