Bear Mountain State Park Celebrates Pool's Centennial

The pool's birthday coincides with the state parks system's centennial anniversary.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — New York's Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation celebrated the 100th birthday of the pool at Bear Mountain State Park on Monday.

NYS Parks Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons and Regional Director Joshua Laird joined children from Park Group Camps for a celebratory splash.

The pool's birthday coincides with the agency’s Centennial Anniversary as a state park system, with the creation of the State Council of Parks in 1924 and citizen approval of a $15 million bond act to build and enlarge a network of state parks.

The spacious pool is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the summer. Visit the Trailside Museums and then take a dip! Admission is $5.

It's also the centennial of the Bear Mountain Bridge — the first vehicular bridge over the Hudson River south of Albany.
