AMT Who Evacuated Dunkin' Donuts During CO Leak Honored

Joseph Biundo bought his own carbon monoxide detector and evacuated Carle Place shop after leak.

A Nassau County AMT was honored for saving lives at a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts after a carbon monoxide leak.

With his own money, Joseph Biundo bought a carbon monoxide detector that he wore while on duty. One day, while inside the Glen Cove Road shop, his detector began beeping and flashing, indicating potentially deadly levels of CO in the air.

Biundo quickly evacuated the store and called dispatchers, who relayed the message to Carle Place Fire Department. Officials ventilated the store and found a faulty oven pipe was leaking the deadly gas.
