Gun Recovered On Traffic Stop; 3 Arrested After Fleeing: Police

It happened during the overnight hours on Monday in Bellerose Terrace.

BELLEROSE TERRACE, NY — Three people face charges after a gun was discovered during a traffic stop on Jericho Turnpike.

Police observed a 2021 blue Kia K5 with five occupants swerving in and out of lanes, just before 4 a.m. Monday.

During the stop, officers discovered a black Smith and Wesson 9mm firearm. When officers attempted to place the suspects in custody, four of them took off on foot, police said.

The driver, Diaronni Terrell, 24, of Brooklyn, was apprehended after fleeing.

Uriah Wiggins, 23, of Brooklyn, was spotted running along the Cross Island Paekway service road, when he was placed under arrest, police said.

Barrett Hughes, 29, of Brooklyn, was located near the intersection of 247th Street and 87th Avenue in Queens, when he was taken into custody, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing.

All three face criminal possession of a weapon charges.

On May 25, Terrell was arrested and released without bail for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. On July 26, Hughes was arrested for a July 16 burglary, police said.
