Herricks Senior Receives Citizenship Award From Nassau Lawmaker

Heba Ahmed, a senior at Herricks High School, has been recognized for her leadership and service both inside and outside the classroom.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A Herricks High School senior is being recognized for her leadership and service both inside and outside the classroom.

Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) presented her Nassau County Legislative Student Citizenship Award to Heba Ahmed during a ceremony on Friday.

Ahmed, a National Honor Society member and AP scholar, has held multiple leadership positions at school — including president and treasurer of the Herricks Muslim Student Association, and public relations officer and dance crew team member of the Herricks Dance Theatre Club. Outside of school, Ahmed is active at the North Shore Islamic Center, where she teaches students about the Quran and the history of Islam, according to Birnbaum's office.

"Heba Ahmed's devotion to uplifting the community shines through in her academic achievements, her support of the Herricks Dance Theater Club, and her commitment to providing young people with a solid historic and educational foundation about the Islamic faith," Birnbaum said. "I'm delighted to recognize her for all she has already accomplished and am eager to see the impact she will have as she embarks upon the next chapter of her life."
