Home Contractor Fraudsters Invented Or Created Damage: Police

Police are investigating cases in Floral Park and Bellerose Terrace and seeking victims of similar incidents.

FLORAL PARK, NY — Two men accused of home improvement fraud were arrested Monday, Nassau County police reported.

According to detectives, an investigation revealed that men illegally soliciting as unlicensed home improvement contractors would introduce themselves as being from a company called Top Line Masonry and offer to perform work on homes owned primarily by the elderly.

They would then defraud the victims by falsely reporting or causing more damage needing repair, police said.

A 2012 White Ford F150 matching the description of the vehicles used in the scheme was observed by Floral Park police officers near the intersection of Revere Drive East and Revere Drive West in Floral Park.

Following an investigation, driver David Young, 31 of 4419 Ludlow Street, Philadelphia and passenger Adam Turner, 25, who has no fixed address, were placed under arrest without incident, police said.

Detectives believe that both were also responsible for similar incidents at two additional locations in Bellerose Terrace.

Now police ask anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a similar crime or experienced a similar incident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.

Both men are charged with three counts of criminal mischief; three counts of scheme to defraud and attempted scheme to defraud; two counts of conspiracy; grand larceny; and three counts of peddling/soliciting.

Additionally, Young is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument. They were both scheduled be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
