NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A New Hyde Park man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with trying to choke his father inside of his parents' home late Saturday night, Nassau police said.

A 60-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were sleeping in the bedroom of their home on Cherrywood Drive when their son, Joshua Wilck, 24, went inside of their bedroom and began to "assault" both of them with a knife at around 11:28 p.m., according to police.

It is not clear if the pair were stabbed or slashed.

Responding officers immediately removed Wilck from the victim and placed him under arrest, according to police.

Both victims had "severe lacerations" and were taken to a local hospital where they are both currently in critical but stable condition, police said.

Wilck has been charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, aggravated criminal contempt, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest.

He has been scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, court records show.

It was not immediately clear if he has legal representation.
