New Assistant Principal Announced For 2 New Hyde Park Schools

Laura Caines-Giralde​ is the new assistant principal of Hillside Grade School and Manor Oaks School in New Hyde Park.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Hillside Grade School and Manor Oaks School have a new assistant principal.

New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District announced that Laura Caines-Giralde will assume her new position on July 1.

Hillside Grade School — located at 150 W. Maple Drive — is a public school for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. According to 2019-2020 school year data, Hillside has an enrollment of 563 students. Sixty-nine percent of the population is Asian or Native Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander, 15 percent is White, and 13 percent is Hispanic or Latino.

Manor Oaks School is located at 1950 Hillside Ave. According to the latest data, 332 students in Pre-K through sixth grade are enrolled in the school. Fifty-five percent of students are Asian or Native Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander, 35 percent are White, and 8 percent are Hispanic or Latino.

Caines-Giralde comes to the NHP-GCP community from the Westbury Union Free School District — where she served as an English as a Next Language (ENL) teacher and completed an administrative internship at Drexel Avenue School, according to a press release.

During her internship, she participated in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports meetings and planned workshops to help parents support their children on their academic journeys.

Prior to her time in Westbury, she served as a classroom teacher and instructional coach at P.S. 43 in Far Rockaway, the release stated.

Caines-Giralde earned her master's degree in education from Queens College and Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from Hofstra University. She's now working on her doctorate in Educational and Policy Leadership at Hofstra University.
